Courts Closed due to National Lockdown from 5th January. Stay Safe.
Welcome to Cringleford Tennis Club. If you are looking for a friendly and social place to play tennis in attractive surroundings then look no further. Following the installation of floodlights on the upper courts in July 2019, we now have four floodlight hard courts and two grass courts. Currently, we are unable to offer our normal full programme of social tennis events due to Covid 19. We were very lucky that we held our annual Chilli and Quiz night just before lockdown, always good fun!
Due to loss of play during lockdown, our membership year has been extended to 30th June 2021. Members must read and follow our Covid 19 Guidance webpage and the LTA’s Guidance for Tennis Players before attending the club.
The club is run by a committee of volunteers who are working very hard in these challenging times so that members are able to continue to play tennis whilst meeting the ever changing LTA guidelines.
Both singles and doubles play is permitted with people from outside of your household, as long as you remain 2 metres apart as far as possible- four people from different households can play doubles. The introduction of a Online Court Booking system in April has been a great success, with the courts being booked in excess of 350 times each month.
We are delighted that the pandemic did not prevent our annual Smith & Pinching tournament from running over the summer, with 105 entrants playing over 70 matches, culminating in some superb tennis on the S&P Finals Day in September.
Currently, there are no club sessions. The committee have concluded that running club sessions at our venue would lead to an unacceptable risk of increased transmission, when we are actually required to minimise risk and keep members safe. The committee appreciate that members may have differing views but ultimately the responsibility for managing the club falls to the committee and we must make the health and wellbeing of members our top priority.
The club has launched Box leagues for Ladies and Men this autumn to provide players the opportunity to meet and play doubles tennis against other members in a way that meets current guidelines. Players have six weeks to play their round robin matches, followed by promotions and relegations, introducing new pairings to the boxes.
Competitive league tennis resumed in October; the club has three teams in the Norwich Winter Tennis Association’s (NWTA) winter league from Division 1 to 5. In the summer, 10 teams play in three different leagues.
Following the installation of led floodlights on the upper courts in July 2019, we had the lower courts repainted this summer and the lamp head units on the lower court floodlights replaced with leds. As the club is unable to offer its normal range of tennis and social activities, we thought members would appreciate all floodlight tennis being free until 30th June 2021!
We are delighted to have Katie Brooks leading coaching at the club. Since September 2019, Katie has grown our junior coaching programme, introduced an adults Improver’s course as well as providing coaching for individuals. Katie has been incredibly busy over the summer with individual and private coaching for adults and juniors. Together with Anna Linton, who runs the Friday Ladies Coaching and Play sessions, we have a strong coaching team.
